"Geralmente, não lançamos colecções Primavera-Verão, Outono-Inverno, mas sim pequenas mais limitadas. Temos esse poder porque é tudo produzido internamente. Podemos gerir as quantidades que queremos e semanalmente lançamos pequenas colecções, para estarmos sempre com material novo", explicou Isabel Silva."Fiz logo a ponte para um outro texto lido recentemente "When past experience doesn't matter anymore":
"So, if product cycles are shrinking to months, and the science you know is obsoleted every four to six years, who do you turn to or where do you turn when you have to create a new product? For most corporations, creating something new has traditionally meant staffing a team that has deep experience, built around people who've "been there, done that" and have the t-shirts and scars to prove it. What happens when the facts are moving so quickly, when change is occurring so rapidly, that no one on your team has enough experience to qualify to be on the innovation team?Gente que escolheu servir um nicho e que aposta na rapidez, flexibilidade, criatividade e aprendizagem.

The reality is that no firm has a definitive stake on innovation, and we are all struggling to understand. The innovation winners will be the people who simply admit they don't know what they are doing and don't have experience, but are willing to experiment and learn. The ones that experiment, learn and repeat the fastest will be the ones who win."

"Kellogg’s missteps with Kashi reflect the overarching struggles of supermarket stalwarts. With their big brands and big bureaucracies, companies like Kellogg are trying to keep up in an era where many shoppers are turning to simpler, less-processed fare. Yet many of the food giants, hobbled by entrenched corporate cultures, have been slow to react. When they stall, they often cede ground to upstart rivals."O que aprendi é que no mundo dos negócios não é David contra Golias.

"Coke's archrivalry with Pepsi was always about market share - capturing it or defending it by tenths of a percentage point in grocery stores, restaurants, and faraway lands.Quem está no campeonato do volume tem umas palas que vão ficando cada vez mais fortes e que não deixam ver as alternativas que podem ser criadas.
.
Coke executives defined their industry as "share of stomach" - that is, the total ounces of liquid an average person consumes in a day and what percentage of it can be filled with Coke.
...
But eventually Coke's monomaniacal focus backfired. When bottled waters like Evian and Poland Spring began to gain traction, Coke didn't pay sufficient attention. Its board vetoed management's proposal to buy Gatorade in 2000 (sending the sports drink into the arms of Pepsi (Charts)).
.
Such niche products were viewed as low-volume distractions. Yet last year, in a turnabout that would have been inconceivable a decade ago, soda sales fell, and water, sports drinks, and energy drinks all soared. The jaw dropper: Energy drinks - which boast a profit margin of 85 percent, according to Bernstein Research - are now expected to outearn every other category of soft drink within three years.
.
Not everyone missed the opportunity. Out in Corona, Calif., tiny Hansen Natural Corp. didn't care about being No. 1 or No. 2. CEO Rodney Sacks was instead noticing how consumers were migrating from carbonated soft drinks to juices, iced teas, and "functional drinks."
.
So in the '90s he began moving Hansen beyond its base as a maker of natural sodas (Mandarin Lime, Orange Mango) toward vitamin and energy drinks. Never mind that the energy-drink market was tiny then. "We look for niches and see how they grow," he says."

I was shocked to read that an estimated 40 percent of Fortune 500 companies will disappear within a decade.Não há limites para uma PME ambiciosa imbuída de uma mentalidade "Podemos - Se"
...
89 percent of the companies that existed in the Fortune 500 in 1955 have now disappeared. They couldn’t keep up with the trends. These companies couldn’t innovate fast enough. They should have been looking to the future; at their challenges and opportunities. It’s the same for enterprises today: our future is exponential – and we need to evolve in order to survive."
"Large dairy enterprises generate returns that, on average, well exceed their full costs. At the same time, smaller dairy farms mostly incur economic losses - the value of their production does not exceed full costs, including the costs of capital and time committed by their owners. Large farms incur much lower costs, on average, than smaller farms, and these advantages accrue across a wide range of sizes. Costs per hundredweight of milk produced fall by nearly half as herd size increases from fewer than 50 head to 500 head, and continue to fall, but less sharply, at even larger herd sizes.Deu para entender a dimensão do que é concorrência quase perfeita com uma commodity agrícola?
.
Dairy investment decisions are consistent with the financial evidence. Farms with fewer than 200 cows accounted for over two-thirds of the nationwide inventory of cows in 1992. By 2006, their share of the nationwide inventory had dropped to 38 percent. [Moi ici: Um mundo completamente diferente das médias nacionais europeias] Meanwhile, farms with at least 1,000 head of dairy cows are growing more prevalent. They accounted for less than 10 percent of inventory in 1992 but more than a third by 2006. Structural shifts are evident among the largest farms, too. During the 1990s, farms ith 1,000–3,000 head were adding the most capacity, but capacity additions have since shifted to even larger farms, with 3,000–10,000 head.
.
Some small dairy farms are profitable, and others continue to earn enough to remain in operation. As a result, structural change is likely for the foreseeable future, with a continuing decline, rather than a sudden disappearance, of small and midsize dairy operations. The ongoing structural changes will continue to place downward pressure on milk prices."
Demographics are dead by @HealthClubKate and other macro trends.

Levou-me até ao número de Agosto da revista Health Club Management e ao seu editorial "Demographics are dead":"It’s no longer possible to predict consumer behaviour based on long-accepted demographic norms – age, gender, income and so on.E ao artigo "Breaking the MOULD":
...
Consumers are no longer behaving as they ‘should’ according to demographic categories, choosing instead to construct their own identities and lifestyles around individual preferences and interests. This in turn has a profound impact on businesses, which must go back to the drawing board to re-assess who their audience really is and what their expectations are.
...

Confused? You should be: consumers are increasingly behaving in ways we least expect. These examples give glimpses into one of the most important shifts in consumerism of modern times, and one that will require a fundamental overhaul of the demographic-focused approach that businesses have used to understand and predict consumer behaviour for decades.
...
we’re entering an age of post-demographic consumerism: one in which the traditional demographic segments – age, gender, income bracket, nationality and more – are becoming less meaningful as predictors of consumer behaviour. Instead, consumers are freer than ever to construct identities and lifestyles of their own choosing."
"In fact, of 58 large companies that have announced Six Sigma programs, 91 percent have trailed the S&P 500 since, according to an analysis by Charles Holland of consulting firm Qualpro (which espouses a competing quality-improvement process).A culpa não é da ferramenta é de quem a usa inadequadamente. E é isto que critico no mundo da Qualidade, a promoção de certas ferramentas, independentemente da sua coerência com a orientação estratégica das empresas.
One of the chief problems of Six Sigma, say Holland and other critics, is that it is narrowly designed to fix an existing process, allowing little room for new ideas or an entirely different approach. All that talent - all those best and brightest - were devoted to, say, driving defects down to 3.4 per million and not on coming up with new products or disruptive technologies."
