We Have a Can Opener). Só que algures no tempo vai ser preciso descer das núvens e the rubber must meet the road... e imaginem quem é que vai fazer o papel da borracha do pneu a desfazer-se ...

Depois de ler o artigo do jornal...
.
.
"Global growth has been driven by cheap and abundant debt, and improperly costed forms of pollution (including carbon emissions). The reality is that this period of growth may be coming to an end."
...
"All brands of politics and economics have been informed by assumptions about the sustainability of high levels of economic growth and the belief that governments and central bankers can exert a substantial degree of control over the economy.
...
"Faster economic growth is the panacea for all … economic and for all that matter political problems and that faster growth can be easily achieved by a combination of inflationary demand-management policies and politically appealing fiscal gimmickry."
.
The present debate misses the point that it may not be feasible to reach again the growth levels in the global economy of the past 20 or so years. Recent global prosperity was founded on a series of elegant Ponzi schemes.
.
Consumption rather than investment drove growth, especially in the developed world."
.

.
"The Almighty Renminbi?" de Roubini no The New York Times e "China’s Sovereign Wealth Buying Spree Expands" de Elaine Supkis.
.
.
"A SHIVER ran through world bond markets on Friday after a US Treasury auction of $US14 billion ($18 billion) in 30-year bonds on Thursday night struggled to find buyers, pushing long-term rates up by 15 basis points to 4.26 per cent.
"It was a horrible auction," Mary Ann Hurley, vice-president of fixed-income trading at D.A. Davidson & Co in Seattle told Reuters.
"It just does not bode well for interest rates. It's ugly, it's very, very ugly," she said.
The global mushrooming of government bond issuance - the IMF says the four biggest issuers are chasing $US4 trillion this year - raises the question of whether there are enough investors to go around.
The IMF has expressed concern that the volume of bond issues from the major countries will crowd out smaller issuers"

"The current recession is likely to be a long one. The current financial crisis, which, as I explained in my last post, has simply served to bring into focus the inherent unsustainability of the previous growth model: deep housing crisis, high indebtedness of the private sector, weak price competitiveness, very high unemployment… S0 as I say, ECB and EU Commission help will need to be on their way, and massive structural reforms now seem inevitable.Despite some recent positive development (decrease in interest rates and prices, fiscal stimulus measures, slight improvement in confidence, ECB purchase of cédulas hipotecarias…),
.
Spain will not recover even as other economies begin to breathe again. The worst year undoubtedly could be 2011, (Moi ici: please "rewind" and read again 2-0-1-1 o pior ano, ainda não se fala em retoma) and the unemployment rate by that stage could reach anywhere between 25% and 30% of the labour force if you accept the March 17.5% number as good.
.
Bottom line, a complete nightmare, with the only bright spot being imminent control of the political system being assumed in Brussels and Frankfurt, since along with the economy the political "automatic stabiliser" system also seems to be broken." (Moi ici: ver Daniel Bessa no caderno de Economia no Expresso da semana passada)

Suster a respiração... por quanto tempo?
.
.
Atenção à mensagem deste artigo "From buy, buy to bye-bye":
.
"The biggest changes will take place in America and parts of Europe, where housing and stockmarket bubbles have imploded and unemployment has soared. As well as seeing their incomes fall as employers cut wages and jobs, households have also seen the value of their homes and retirement savings shrink dramatically. Although the threat to wages will fade as growth picks up, the damage done to housing and other assets will linger."
...
"The trend towards thrift will not disappear when the economy picks up. For one thing, those banks left standing after the bust will be far more parsimonious with consumer credit. For another, many people will still be intent on rebuilding their nest-eggs, which is reflected in sharply rising rates of saving. Sociologists also detect a distinct change in people’s behaviour. Until the downturn, folk had come to assume that “affluence” was the norm, even if they had to go deeply into debt to pay for gadgets and baubles. Now many people no longer seem consumed by the desire to consume; instead, they are planning to live within their means, and there has been a backlash against bling."

Nas costas dos outros vêmos as nossas!
Mr Lenihan delivered the toughest Budget speech in the history of the State in the Dáil this afternoon which also includes the abolition of pensions for sitting TDs and plans for means testing of child benefit as well as a possible carbon tax and a tax on property in the coming years.
Social welfare payments will not be reduced but a reduction may be needed in the future, Mr Lenihan said. The December bonus normally paid to welfare recipients will not now be paid in 2009 and the jobseeker allowance for the under 20s will be halved and rent supplements will be reduced.

Por isso, impressiona ainda mais neste artigo "The big drop: Trade and the Great Recession" o trecho:
.
"56% of the real drop in exports is in motor vehicles and capital goods. Raw materials represent another 24% of the drop. Motor vehicles and capital goods represent 62% of the real drop in exports."
.

Ram Charan on Leading Now
If you have to make layoffs, make them in a fair, open way. Be frank; explain what's happening on the outside and why layoffs are necessary to protect good people and good jobs.(Quantas vezes isto acontece?
Authenticity is always important but now it's absolutely critical. Leaders, wherever they sit in the organization, have to demonstrate rock-solid integrity, honesty, and the ability to confront reality.
