Ontem, li "Why The Key Management Problem Is Often At The Top":
"That is precisely the point. It’s actually a key to solving the management puzzle. The relatively weaker performance of the other firms is often the result of what is going on at the top of the firm.
That in turn is good news for relatively poorly performing firms: they may be able to improve their performance without massive changes throughout the whole firm. What they need is to fix what's happening at the top.
At the same time, this also explains why the management problems of the weaker performers are so intractable: the top managers have difficulty in solving the problem because it is they who are often the problem. They are reluctant to look at their own behavior in the mirror. It is thus the role of management analysts to hold up the mirror for them and help them begin to discuss the undiscussable."
Qual a solução? Nacionalizar as empresas? Roubar as empresas? No problema! As pessoas emigram.
"This book has argued that it is possible to gather and to analyze numbers in ways that help us understand the world. But it has also argued that very often we make mistakes not because the data aren’t available, but because we refuse to accept what they are telling us. For Irving Fisher, and for many others, the refusal to accept the data was rooted in a refusal to acknowledge that the world had changed. [Moi ici: Recordo logo Drop your tools!!! One of Fisher’s rivals, an entrepreneurial forecaster named Roger Babson, explained (not without sympathy) that while Fisher was “one of the greatest economists in the world today and a most useful and unselfish citizen,” he had failed as a forecaster because “he thinks the world is ruled by figures instead of feelings.” [Moi ici: Recordo logo "Nós fazemos as contas ao contrário"]
I hope that this book has persuaded you that it is ruled by both."

"strategy statements are often tasked with taking on super-heavy loads. Too many of them now include the mission statement, the purpose statement, a list of enduring cultural values and commitments to various stakeholders, and even the core goals for the business....It’s time to declutter strategy documents. And my suggestion for doing that is to create two lists: what is going to change and what’s not going to change....Let’s start with what won’t change. Those items shouldn’t be in the strategy document. This category includes all the immutable truths that are part of an organization’s narrative about itself: the purpose and mission statements, its commitment to certain values and priorities, its promises to various stakeholders....Ideally, the new document includes the four elements of a simple and effective framework Dinesh Paliwal, the former CEO of audio entertainment company Harman International Industries, shared with me:
- a concrete summary statement of the outcome you are trying to achieve
- the three or four levers you must pull to achieve that goal
- the headwinds that have to be overcome to achieve that goal
- a scoreboard for measuring progress."

Por isso, alguns sublinhados de "How To Identify And Adopt Your Ideal Pricing Strategy":
"1. Avoid Commoditizing Your Product Or Service
The key to a smart pricing strategy is to avoid commoditizing your product or service.
...
2. Define Your Target Customers' Needs [Moi ici: Um clássico!]
Entrepreneurs are notorious for leaving money on the table. Pricing always follows the Pareto Principle, with an ever-smaller percentage of customers willing to spend an ever-increasing amount of money with your company. Start with finding the 20% of your existing customers that will spend more money with you. Then, define their needs and offer a premium option.
...
4. Don't Lower Your Value
Know your own worth and don't be afraid to charge accordingly. Do not lower your value just because a lead says you should.
...
5. Go After Quality Versus Quantity
Know your customer and don’t be scared to go after quality versus quantity.
...
12. Make Their Investments Worthwhile
Whatever your ultimate pricing structure is, make sure you position your products, services and company overall to not be in a race to the bottom. No matter how commoditized your offering might seem or actually be, you can wrap a value-added set of features, services and approaches around them to make paying a premium worthwhile."
"However, if these firms are within the same economy, these differences in the choice of inputs must reflect either the fact that they face different factor prices at the same time or the fact that they are making different technological choices given the same factor prices; either assumption presents difficulties for the neoclassical formulation that have not really been confronted.
...
Exploration of technologies that have not been used before involves in an essential way the characteristics of "innovation" that we described earlier. If this position is accepted, it is not merely that movements along preexisting production functions explain little of experienced growth. It is that the idea of movements along with the production function into the previously unexperienced regions-the conceptual core of the neoclassical explanation of growth must be rejected as a theoretical concept.
...
However, in either case, as long as firms differ in terms of what they come up with as a result of their research and development activities, firms will differ in terms of their profitability."

"A few years ago I interviewed General H. R. McMaster, an expert on the mistakes made in Vietnam. He told me that the army used to believe that “situational understanding could be delivered on a computer screen.”It could not. Sometimes you have to be there to understand—especially when a situation is fast-moving or contains soft, hard-to-quantify details, [Moi ici: Mal li isto recordei logo uma pergunta que me fizeram na semana passada durante este webinar, sobre auditorias remotas no sector alimentar] as is typically the case on the battlefield. The Nobel laureate economist Friedrich Hayek had a phrase for the kind of awareness that is hard to capture in metrics and maps: the “knowledge of the particular circumstances of time and place.”Social scientists have long understood that statistical metrics are at their most pernicious when they are being used to control the world, rather than try to understand it...."When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.") Psychologists turn to Donald T. Campbell, who around the same time explained: “The more any quantitative social indicator is used for social decision-making, the more subject it will be to corruption pressures and the more apt it will be to distort and corrupt the social processes it is intended to monitor.”Goodhart and Campbell were onto the same basic problem: a statistical metric may be a pretty decent proxy for something that really matters, but it is almost always a proxy rather than the real thing. Once you start using that proxy as a target to be improved, or a metric to control others at a distance, it will be distorted, faked, or undermined.

Come on!!!
...
Por um lado esta conversa em que o aumento da produtividade é associado à redução de custos, e depende do trabalho dos governos de turno."It is widely believed that restructuring has boosted productivity by displacing low-skilled workers and creating jobs for the high skilled."Mas, e como isto é profundo:"In essence, creative destruction means that low productivity plants are displaced by high productivity plants."
