Quando aprendi a ler, porque ficava longas horas em casa com o meu irmão mais novo, aprendi a devorar os livros de História Universal de José Mattoso que os meus pais tinham tido na escola.

Quando ia a casa dos meus avós paternos, ficava longas horas a conversar com o meu primo mais velho sobre o que tínhamos aprendido sobre História Universal.

Depois, a Mitologia Grega carregada de magia, carregada de fantástico, foi outra paixão.

Ontem, descobri este postal carregado de episódios da antiguidade greco-romana "The Will to Victory"... ainda, ontem ao almoço, comentava que tinha lido alguém na Internet a defender o poder do secreto para garantir o respeito e a autoridade. Na verdade, o cozinheiro de César, por mais importante que fosse, e foi (quer nas batalhas da Gália, quer no Norte de África na batalha de Tapso contra Catão, O Jovem e Cipião Metelo (o Bacorinho?), onde um exército romano teve de se alimentar sobretudo de carne) não era César.

Este episódio é saboroso:

"A Roman general was leading his legions toward the enemy in a swampy country. He knew that the next day’s battle would be fought on a certain plain because it was the only dry, flat place for miles. He pushed his army all night, marching them through a frightening and formidable swamp, so that they reached the battle site before the foe and could claim the high ground. Quem lidera, tal como o general Romano, tem a obrigação de ver mais longe e trazer todos para a mesma plataforma, para que vejam mais longe.

E mais, tem de considerar que muitas vezes os liderados estão a milhas de perceberem qual o campeonato em que se joga o jogo.
