"Exhortation is detrimental to the functioning of a corporation and therefore may be part of the condition that keeps a company from moving to higher levels of success. Given the complex nature of the thinking and speaking that is required, executives would be of greater service to their corporations if they were more thoughtful in their declarations of intent. Exhortation lacks integrity and authenticity. Its main use is for "motivation" and is usually seen as such by those it is intended to motivate. It should not be surprising that such declarations of intent frequently cause disbelief, loss of respect and eventual failure. Exhortation frequently replaces the hard work of strategic thinking."
