Para quem se queixa da China... (parte VII)

Continuado daqui.
.
Termino a minha leitura de David Birnbaum com esta citação:
.
"The global garment industry has given rise to many myths of which few are complimentary. Among the most egregious is the idea that importers and retailers single out factories from the very worst and poorest countries with the most downtrodden population to be their suppliers. The theory is that increased competition invariably results in downward FOB price pressure which in turn forces buyers to seek out the least developed countries in which to make their goods.
.
The logic is pretty good and many academics, international institutions and NGOs accept the Race-to-the-Bottom Theory as gospel. Certainly supplying countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan and Cambodia offer compelling evidence supporting the logic of race-to-the-bottom. However, these countries are hardly representative of the major garment export countries. Certainly the race-to-the-bottom people do not include the major garment exporting countries of Hong Kong, Italy, Canada and even Switzerland in their garments."

BTW:
.
A Itália é o 18º exportador têxtil para os Estados Unidos.
.
A Republica Checa e a Suiça são os 15º e 17º exportadores têxteis para a União Europeia. (valores de 2006)
